CITIZENSHIP

‘Every good citizen adds to the strength of a nation.’ – Gordon B. Hinckley 

Good citizenship is one of the core values that we hope to instill in our learners. Recycling, fund raising for charities as well as visits to neighboring old-age homes are some of the projects that we have implemented to raise good citizens. We hope to continue to add value to our community in future projects.

RESPONSIBILITY

‘Taking responsibility for oneself is by definition an act of kindness.’– Sharon Salzberg 

As being responsible is an important life skill and value; responsibility is one of Huttenpark’s core values. By incorporating this concept into our academic curriculum as well as giving the classes small projects such as looking after a class plant or pet are examples of the activities that we use to encourage responsibility. 

FAIRNESS

‘Fairness is not giving everyone the same thing. Fairness is giving each person what they need to succeed.’ – Rick Riordan

Being fair is something that we take very seriously and we hope to instill this through the example set by our staff and management. Unfortunately there are not always equal opportunities for all of the learners, but giving them a fair chance wherever possible is important to us. We also try to encourage our learners to treat each other fairly at all times, regardless of gender, culture or economic status.

RESPECT

‘Respect is appreciation of the separateness of the other person, of the ways in which he or she is unique.’ – Annie Gottlieb

Respect is also an important life skill that we try to instill in our learners on a daily basis. By leading by example and also teaching them the importance of respect, we hope that this value becomes just as important to them. At Huttenpark we respect the different cultures and religions present, allowing for each child to freely be who they are, without judgement and discrimination. We accommodate children from all walks of life, cultural backgrounds, academic abitity and economic status.

CARING

At Huttenpark we care for each other. We are a family. We teach our learners to care for others and for themselves. We have a Hutties hearts project that supports our less fortunate learners providing them with the support that they need in order to afford them the same opportunieies as their peers. We also share our care and sympathy to children whom have lost a parent, by giving them a soft toy to remind them that they are loved and cared for.

TRUSTWORTHINESS

We try to instill a culture of trust among our learners. Trust allows for acceptance, loyalty and safety, builds confidence and dependability. Trust allows for love among friends and strengthens a team. Our numerous academic and sporting activities allow for trust to be carried out regularly.
